Benign WiFi Hack

What? You found an unsecured WiFi connection?

This is what you should do to ensure that it stays unsecured so that you and other people can keep using it... cause that's the right thing to do!
First of all, find out the “gateway” address, that is the address of the router you are connected to (ie: on Windows, type “ipconfig” in a Command Prompt).
Then, type that address into your browser (usually something like 192.168.1.1)
You will then get to the router’s interface. Chances are, if the network is unsecured, they also didn’t change the default username and password for the router, so go to google and search for the default username and password of the router you are connected to (you should be able to see the brand and model of the router somewhere in the router’s web interface)
Now that you have logged into the router, DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS, just change the username and password of the router’s web interface. This ensures that the owner can’t log into it to set up a password for the WiFi.
They can recover control of their router by doing a hard reset, but chances are, if they didn’t change the username and password or their router and didn’t set up a password for the WiFi, that they have no idea what they are doing and will never even notice that you changed the username and password of their router web interface.
Now it will stay unsecured and open for all to connect to it ;)

This is what you should do to ensure that it stays unsecured so that you and other people can keep using it... for free, cause that's the right thing to do!

This is a benign hack, but be assured, do it under your own risk, I assume no responsibility for any of your actions, this is just an idea I had, I do not endorse or condone it, it just shows a vulnerability for educational purposes.

Happy hacking!
